How to Find the Cheapest Fuel

With high fuel prices today, it is important that you direct your fleet to the cheapest fuel stations along your route.  So here are two great resources to use when deciding on where to fuel.

1) Gasbuddy.com

Gasbuddy.com provides local recent prices to help you find the cheapest fuel near you.  How does it work? People report prices of local fuel stations to gasbuddy.com and then gasbuddy.com reports those prices to the people who are searching for the cheapest fuel prices.  Basically it’s an organized network of people sharing fuel prices with other people. It’s easy to use.  Just go to gasbuddy.com and enter your city, state, or zip and press search.

There are also other great tools on their website such as the “USA National Gas Price Heat Map” and the “Trip Cost Calculator”. If you or your fleet travels long distances, use the “USA National Gas Price Heat Map” to find the areas across the county with the cheapest fuel prices so you can fuel at all the right stops. You can also use the “Trip Cost Calculator” to find how much it would cost to travel a specific route.

2) AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report provides daily average fuel prices per state and metro area. For Example , you can get the average fuel price for the Los Angeles-Long Beach Area at the current time, yesterday, a week ago, and a month ago.

This is a great reference point to see what you should be paying in a specific area. If you are paying higher than the average price in your area then you need to take a look to see if your drivers are going to expensive fuel stations or you may be getting overcharged by your fleet fuel card provider.
